The club have announced today that Alan Pardew has been shortlisted for the Barclays Manager of the Month award for February.
With only three Premier League matches played by Newcastle, Alan Pardew has overseen excellent home wins in the league over Chelsea and Southampton, plus a narrow defeat by Spurs. Only league matches counting towards this award, so the excellent progress in the Europa League won't register.
The competition, certainly from a stats perspective, would appear to be Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham who have all won their last three matches.
When Alan Pardew received a number of Manager Of The Year awards last May, one of the most bizarre statistics was that despite being universal acclaimed for the end of year prize, our manager failed to win a single Manager Of The Month award last season, bizarre.
In fact, wait for it, you have to go all the way back to Sir Bobby Robson in October 2003 for the last time a Newcastle manager won a Premier League monthly award, I think that tells us a lot about what we've mostly watched over those years.
