Arsenal On Standby as Real Madrid Striker Fuels Speculation of ...

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly set to leave the Bernabeu with Arsenal and Tottenham said to be the sides leading the chase for the Argentine according to the Daily Express.

The 25 year old refused to commit his future to the club following his side's 5-1 win over Levante and when pushed on the matter the Real Madrid striker stated;

Higuain has struggled to retain a spot in the Real Madrid starting eleven since Jose Mourinho took over at the Spanishgiants, this despite the fact that when called upon the former River Plate man has been a prolific marksman.

Thus far this term Gonzalo Higuain has started just 16 of Real Madrid's 30 La Liga fixtures but has still racked up 12 goals and has been equally prolific for his national team, scoring nine goals in Argentina's World Cup qualification campaign.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could do with strengthening his attack and a move for a player as accomplished as Higuain would be a big statement of intent though this source suggests that Real Madrid may use the striker as bait in pursuit of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.

Andre Villas-Boas is perhaps in even more desperate need of a new striking option given the poor form shown by Emmanuel Adebayor this term.
