Tottenham Hotspur versus. Everton: Final score 2-2, Bale-less Spurs used at White... - SB Nation

No Gareth Bale? Issue! Tottenham got out to an early lead against Everton but could not manage to get three points against the Toffees and had to keep coming back late to even repair a draw. Within seconds of kickoff, Tottenham Hotspur were ahead. Jan Vertonghen was given room to mosey around on the left hand side, and the brilliant Belgian made Everton spend by moving in a vicious combination that joyfully bypassed the massed defenders and was achieved by Emmanuel Adebayor on the volley six yards out. The picture was aimed more or less immediately at Tim Howard, but unfortunately for the Toffees, the goalkeeper permitted the ball to trickle past him and into set Spurs 1-0 up. Did the Toffees have an answer? Yes, although they seemed broadly incompetent for a lot of the overall game before the equaliser. Ultimately, however, the visitors won a corner and Hugo Lloris went after a he was never going to get anywhere near, allowing Phil Jagielka to show up at the far post and fit in a header to make it 1-1. The remainder of the first half, which had started so promisingly with that early purpose, passed without much event (which was a lot better than the teams were doing). Tottenham tried the good old 'attraction for a charge despite the ball striking Darron Gibson in the chest' technique, but there wasn't even enough of a dispute there to make it interesting. Cheerfully for the simple, Kevin Miralles made a decision to make things more fascinating after the break. In the 53rd minute, the lithe Belgian rush through the Spurs lines, and, because of Nikica Jelavic's much article function, was given the time to slot past Lloris and into the bottom part to provide the readers an important advantage. The hosts came roaring straight back. Moussa Dembele rattled Howard's right-hand post directly from the kickoff, and Clint Dempsey sent a brace of 20-yard shots whistling only wide of this same post shortly afterwards. Sooner or later, the pressure would pay off -- even though it took a little while. It's not completely clear what Everton's defense was doing once they allowed Adebayor five yards of space to bring down Kyle Walker's mix in the penalty area, but their time of madness cost them dearly when the striker criticized in an attempt off the post and Gylfi Sigurdsson turned the rebound. The Toffees not quite won it at the demise when Victor Anichebe went one on one with Lloris simply to be denied by the goalkeeper's feet, and the fit might complete 2-2. It's actually a fairly bad outcome for both sides, but each is likely to be reasonably pleased about the performance. Follow @SBNationSoccer on Facebook
