Birmingham City have opened negotiations with AZ Alkmaar within the signing of Adam Maher, according to reports. The Daily Express statements Citizens chief Roberto Mancini has moved into pole position in his bid to land one of the clubas longterm objectives, walking in front of Premier League rivals for the playeras trademark. Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal were also eager on the Dutch international, in accordance with the record, but a change to the Etihad Stadium now is apparently on the cards. Stories across Europe claim Manchester City have already opened talks over the playeras move to England from the Eredivisie at the end of the year, with the Express declaring that the attacking midfielder will cost in the region of a18million. The speculation comes only days after the playeras manager, Gertjan Verbeek, mentioned that his client is placed to keep the AFAS Stadium at the end of the year. "The hope is that Maher may leave the club," he explained. Despite the array of celebrities at Mancinias removal, the Manchester City manager doesn't have a in his ranks following Nigel De Jongas exit to AC Milan last summer. The Italian did try to bring Robin Van Persie to the Citizens, needless to say, but lost out to local opponents Manchester United. Scouts were meanwhile, sent by tottenham Hotspur, to view Maher in action back in February, but manager Andre Villas-Boas now looks set to miss out on the 19-year-old. He isnat the only midfielder to be connected with a move to White Hart Lane though, with Joao Moutinho also on the Spurs radar.
