J. R. Smith's bricked jumpers weren't the one errant tosses in the revolutionary York Knicks' Game 6 battle resistant to the Indiana Pacers. Referee Ken Mauer moreover joined the party by heaving up one of the worst jump balls with the history of organized basketball.
It's always a little weak to better of officials. Usually, they're doing the very best they can in what amounts to your no-win situation. No topic what they call, somebody is usually unhappy.
Note to whiny admirers: Your team probably lost since it wasn't any good—not due to the fact there's some league-wide conspiracy to shortchange your selected squad.
Really, there are only two steps in the way. First, the referee is required to wait until both players are prepared and in position. Looking at the video above, it's pretty clear that Mauer blew that any particular one.
Maybe this is the beginning of a new trend within the NBA: the surprise bounce ball. That sounds type of fun, doesn't it? Some ref could either fire the ball up manner before either team can be ready or, even far better, wait for about 10 units with all 10 players aligned. You know, just to work out how long they'd stand still.
Anyway, Mauer missed the "timing" part of his jump-ball officiating class. But he also screwed the second part by tossing the ball to certainly Amar'e Stoudemire, who was so stunned in what happened that he spiked the rock straight into the waiting arms involving Sam Young.
Wow, I almost forgot that Mauer botched still another aspect of the jump ball. Look where she's standing! Don't be hesitant, Kenny. You're allowed contained in the circle. In fact, that's where every other referee in the story of basketball has stood through the jump ball. Get in there, buddy.
Therefore seemed like Mauer has been under attack from many angles, as New York supporters came out of the woodwork to hassle the dog.
Ultimately, this isn't that big of a deal. But it's undeniably unusual when something as common being jump ball suddenly takes center stage within a playoff game for any wrong reasons.
